Classroom Guidance is provided once every three weeks to all classes grades K-5. SPARK uses Kelso’s Choice to help students learn about problem solving and getting along with others. Lessons will also be presented on academic skills, such as time management and organization, as well as diversity, feelings, bullying, friendships, and other topics requested by teachers.
Each month, classes focus on a character trait and homeroom teachers teach a lesson. Students vote on which of their classmates shows that trait best, and winners are rewarded by the School Counselor. The character traits by month are:
- August: Responsibility
- September: Respect
- October: Tolerance
- November: Honesty/Truthfulness
- December: Generosity/Compassion
- January: Kindness
- February: Perseverance/Resourcefulness
- March: Fairness
- April: Cooperation
- May: Courage/Initiative
